01 // OVERVIEW

Project Overview

An AR experience iOS app that combines football and golf. ARKit automatically detects the horizontal plane (the ground) and lays out distance markers from 1 to 10 meters in a lane formation in AR space. The user selects a target distance, kicks the ball, and taps the position where it stopped to measure it; landing within +/-15cm of the target distance counts as success (10 pts). Points and per-distance best records are managed locally.

Key Features

view_in_ar

Ground detection and distance marker placement with ARKit

ARKit detects the horizontal plane in real time and displays distance markers from 1 to 10 meters lined up in AR space from the starting point. The marker for the selected distance is highlighted to visually indicate the challenge target.

straighten

Ball position measurement and judgment by tap

Tapping the screen at the position where the ball stopped measures its 3D coordinates via ARKit raycasting and automatically calculates the distance from the starting point. Landing within +/-15cm of the target distance is judged a success and awards 10 points.

emoji_events

Points and per-distance best records

Total points, success rate, and play count are saved locally, and a home screen lists the best record for each distance. Preparation for Firebase integration (mockup) is also implemented.

Solution

Ensuring raycast accuracy in the ARKit environment

To address ARKit's plane-detection accuracy varying with lighting conditions and floor material, the design shows tracking status in real time on screen to prompt the user toward proper scanning actions. This was implemented to meet a target accuracy of +/-10-15cm using ARKit raycasting.
